“Sarabande artists @almudena.romero, @electricadam and @paolocarzana were commissioned to create works for the celebration – guests were greeted by Almudena’s cress-grown portrait of her grandparents, while Paolo brought his poetic touch to the table with antique linens hand-dyed with logwood, indigo, and madder, and Electric Adam blurred the line between performance and sculpture with ‘Séance’, his performance inspired by Victorian garden statues and spiritual rituals.
Commissions are important in progressing an artist’s career; they fund a particular vision and give a reason for an artist to bring a body of work into the world. For this evening, no strict boundaries were set. It meant that the artists could create simply in pursuit of creative development.
